Harvest is a good timer. But the time it tracks lives apart from the work: you pick a project and a task in Harvest, while the actual work is an issue somewhere else. At the end of the month someone matches the two.

In Notulous the time is tracked on the issue. You open what you're working on, press Start timer, and the hours are linked to the issue, the project and the client from the start.

Time tracking in Notulous

  • A timer on every issue, in the browser and in the phone app, and time logged afterwards with a date, a duration and a description.
  • A timesheet of your week, per day and per issue.
  • Reports that group the hours by project, person, client, issue or day, over any period.
  • Rates per project, or per role within a project, so a designer's hour and a developer's hour can differ. Time on a project that bills is billable unless you mark it otherwise.
  • Budgets in hours per project, with a ring that fills up as the budget is used.
  • An invoice export: the billable hours as a CSV file, with the date, the client, the project, the issue, the person, the hours, the rate and the amount per line, and a total.

And the work itself

Next to the hours, Notulous has what Harvest doesn't: projects with issues, boards, releases, notes, and clients who follow their projects without a paid seat.

What it costs

Harvest Teams costs about €121 a month for 15 people, plus usage fees. Notulous Team, with the timer, timesheets and the issues, costs €105. Studio, with the reports, rates, budgets and invoice export, costs €195, and never more than €449 a month however many people you add.

What Notulous doesn't do

Harvest sends invoices and records payments. Notulous doesn't: it exports the billable hours with the amounts, for the invoicing or accounting software you already use. There's no import from Harvest, so start tracking in Notulous from a new month and keep Harvest's reports for the months before.
