Asana is a good place to organise tasks. For client work, the parts that matter most come late or cost extra: time tracking starts on Asana's Advanced plan, and the hours don't turn into an invoice.

Notulous is made for studios and agencies that sell their time. The board, the hours, the rates and the clients are in one workspace.

What you get

  • Projects and issues with subtasks, priorities, assignees, files and comments, on a board or in a list, and one board across all your projects.
  • My work and a personal space for your own to-dos, next to what's assigned to you.
  • Time tracking on every issue, with a timer, a timesheet and reports.
  • Clients who follow their own projects, add requests and comment, without a paid seat.
  • Rates and budgets per project and per role, and an export of the billable hours with the amounts, for your invoices.
  • Notes and documents per project, and the phone app for iPhone, iPad and Android.

What it costs for 15 people

Asana Advanced, the plan with time tracking, costs about €335 a month for 15 people. Notulous Studio, with clients, rates and the invoice export, costs €195, and Team, with the issues, boards and time tracking, €105. Neither costs more than €249 or €449 a month, however many people you add.

Moving from Asana

Export the project from Asana as JSON (the project menu › Export/Print › JSON) and import it on the Projects page. Tasks become issues and their subtasks become the issue's subtasks. Asana's export doesn't include comments, so those stay behind. Importing again later updates the tasks you imported before and adds the new ones.

When Asana fits better

If you mostly plan internal work, with goals, portfolios and forms across a large company, Asana does more of that. Notulous is for agencies of 5 to 50 people whose work ends in hours and invoices.
